2016 Open Submissions
Playwrights Local seeks original one-act and full-length plays for our 2nd Annual Cleveland Playwrights Festival in late 2016, and for additional programs including our developmental Play Lab in early 2017.
All plays that are original and professionally unproduced will be accepted. Small-scale musicals and one-person shows are welcome, but no adaptations or translations, please.
There is no fee for submitting.
Timeline
The deadline for entry is midnight on May 15, 2016. Early submissions are encouraged!
Selections will be announced on July 15, 2016.
Eligibility & Guidelines
- One script per playwright may be submitted. (Either a one-act or full-length play.)
- Plays should have no more than seven actors. (More than seven roles for fewer actors is acceptable.)
- Open to all playwrights age 18 or older who are permanent residents of Cuyahoga and any of its bordering counties.
Format
- One-act plays should be under 60 pages, and full-lengths under 120 pages.
- Manuscripts should be in a standard playwriting format such as Samuel French.
- Manuscripts must be submitted as PDF files, and must include:
- a cover page with name, title, an indication of one-act or full-length form, and contact information
- a brief synopsis (100 words)
- a production history including any public readings, workshops, or other presentations
- a page with a cast breakdown and setting
- Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
