We support the playwrights of Northeast Ohio with a variety of creative and professional development programs. These series are intended to improve individual plays and projects as well as advance the careers of local writers in a holistic sense.
The Play Lab is our annual incubator program for writing and revision. Over a period of months, selected playwrights expand and revise their works-in-progress with the help of assigned dramaturgs, directors, and actors. This cycle includes feedback sessions, at-home revision, and rehearsals, and concludes with a series of public staged readings. The Play Lab helps writers improve material at any stage of development and bring news plays closer to production.
The Roundtable Series is a development workshop focused on public readings of plays in progress. Each session is dedicated to presenting and discussing a single full-length or longer one-act piece. The readings can be seated or staged, are free to attend, and are open to the public as well as the playwriting community. The goal of each gathering is to provide the designated playwright with focused, insightful feedback. The Roundtable Series is an open workshop for all playwrights from Northeast Ohio.
Presented on an annual basis, our Open Call for Submissions is free and open to all residents of Northeast Ohio. Our evaluators include company members and volunteers, and we ensure that every play is read by at least three responders.
YOUNG PLAYWRIGHTS COLLECTIVE (YPC)
The Young Playwrights Collective serves emerging writers approximately 30 and under. The group meets regularly to workshop new material, provide support, and otherwise keep each other’s writing on track. Immediate plans for the YPC involve helping its playwrights prepare their primary one-acts and full-lengths for production. Future plans involve staged readings and other presentations.
